My 3 Favorite Bakeries in Culver City

I love the smell of fresh bread. Luckily, the Westside is dotted with bakeries so that no matter where I happen to go, I can stop for a bagel, croissant, or whole grain boule. Three of my favorites happen to be in Culver City. Be sure to stop by one (or all three) the next time you’re in town.

Copenhagen Pastry opened in 2012, bringing traditional pastries like you’d find in Denmark. Not only do Karen Hansen’s pastries look like her old home, but so does her adorable white and orange shop.

What can you find at Copenhagen Pastry? Pastries filled with almond paste, cookies, Danishes, cakes, marizpan pigs, Danish rye, cinnamon rolls, coffee breads, and more. The freshly ground and brewed coffee help round out a fabulous on-the-go breakfast or a mid-afternoon treat.

Owner’s Alexander Phaneuf and Or Amsalam don’t just make bread. They make award winning bread as semifinalists for the James Beard Award for Outstanding Baker, as well as some pretty tasty pizza baked in their wood-burning overn.

At Lodge Bread Company, you can buy delicious loaves of whole grain bread baked in the European tradition.You can also try a wonderful assortment of toasts spread with avocado, radishes, lemon, and seasonal surprises. Finally, you can try their pizza, soup, and hot sandwiches.

Hans Röckenwagner has a huge bakery in Culver City that mass produces amazing breads, but also supplies his cafe on Washington Blvd. Although well-known for bread, the Röckenwagner Bakery Café is also known for incredible pretzels made from a recipe from his hometown in Germany.

Whether you want baguettes, seven grain loaves, croissants, pretzels, tarts, cookies, caneles, or struesels, Hans has what you are looking for.
