Hancock Park is the latest hotspot on the Westside. Here are just a few reasons why, as well as some of my favorite things to do in Hancock Park.
What Millennials Want
When it comes to buying homes, millennials have been slow to get on board the American dream. However, as more and more millennials move into their 30’s, we see a rise in their participation in the real estate market. Last year, they made up a third of real estate purchases.
However, millennials are not looking for the same things their baby boomer parents and grandparents sought. Instead, when millennials choose a neighborhood, they look for things such as:
- Wide variety of entertainment options
- Walkability
- Convenience for living, working, and playing
- Strong public transportation systems
- Good schools
- Older homes with character, especially if they have or can be made to have flexible living space
- Businesses that cater to the millennial crowd
- Mixed-use developments
How Hancock Park Meets Millennial Requirements
Hancock Park is right in the middle of the LA action and brings the traditional downtown LA experience right into this smaller neighborhood. Plus, with easy access to nearby Hollywood and DTLA, Hancock Park is a great place to buy a single-family residence while still having the big city experience.
- Public transportation makes it easy to head into most areas of LA. With bus stops throughout Hancock Park that go directly to the Purple Line, residents can be downtown in about 30 minutes.
- As part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, Hancock Park has some exceptional schools. One of the best elementary schools is Hancock Park Elementary with a rating of 8/10.
- Businesses in the area include bookstores, clothes boutiques, eateries, and coffee shops including a farmer’s market, an artisan bakery, and more.
For those wanting true walkability, they can turn to Larchmont Village. This quaint half square mile neighborhood has shopping nestled in with historic homes, plus four schools and a park.
It is no wonder that Hancock Park is a destination for those wanting the hip life of LA while enjoying the comfort of a single-family home.
Some of My Favorites
Of course, Hancock Park has some things you just can’t find anywhere else in LA. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Larchmont Sanctuary Spa – great Himalayan salt therapies
- Republique – In a building designed by Charlie Chaplin, Walter Manzke offers amazing aged meats with a French bistro flair
- Landis Gifts & Stationery – Founded in 1930, this shop offers classic and contemporary stationery and gifts, including personalized stationery
- Chevalier’s Books – LA’s oldest independent bookstore
- Jeni’s Ice Cream – Recent addition to the area
